Changing Women’s Health
As a Nurse Aromatherapist for the past 30 years, I have seen how women’s health and wellbeing has been impacted by a generation of trying to do it all, raise a family often away from the support of our birth families, hold down a job while building a career and maintaining a tip top household with the pressures of childcare, cleaning, cooking and managing finances.
Women are realising that something must give and the long-term impacts of living in a culture of quick fixes, a pill for every ill is no longer working for them. Modern women are now seeking alternative healthcare choices to the limited ones on offer currently and are aware of the dearth in research in relation to giving birth naturally, perimenopause, menopause and boosting fertility.
The current treatments for hormonal, physical and psychological conditions are all under the spotlight and with access to the world wide web, women are seeking more natural methods, lifestyles and treatments that are in tune with their feminine ways, cycles and seasons of life. Aromatherapy is a wonderful way that women can be empowered to take care of their health and the health of their families using the medicine of plants for emotional, mental, menstrual, peri/menopause, immune, respiratory and reproductive health.
Supporting Hormonal Health
Aromatherapy can support female hormonal health throughout the menstrual cycle with symptoms such as mood changes, sleep problems, skin, appetite and energy levels as well as abdominal discomfort and menstrual cramps associated with menstruation particularly in young women.
Using essential oil blends for painful periods, mood changes in a self-massage or a diffuser, inhaler stick or roller ball can be very beneficial throughout the month.
Perimenopause and Menopause can bring a whole host of symptoms that can be very debilitating for women and essential oils such as clary sage, frankincense, patchouli, neroli, mandarin, rose otto, rose absolute, vetiver, ylang ylang, aniseed, vitus agnus castus, geranium, cypress and many more can help relieve these symptoms.
Essential oils can also be very helpful for emotional support and can help uplift a low mood and ground and calm the nervous system.
“Thank you Ruth, I feel great in my body, soul and mind and am so grateful for your treatment yesterday. I enjoyed 8 hours of sleep last night, amazing! The Maya Abdominal Massage is not only a great way to deeply relax but also a marvellous journey that takes me in the right direction to heal myself. You have helped me release stuck issues in my body and soul. Afterwards my body was so thankful and pain free. I felt like a new woman.”
