Yoga
Yoga is the uniting of consciousness in the heart. United in the heart, consciousness is steadied, then we abide in our true nature - joy. At other times, we identify with the rays of consciousness, which fluctuate and encourage our perceived suffering.
Yoga Sutras of Patanjali
Yoga by its nature is a way of life that allows us to transform ourselves. The asanas of the 8 limbs of yoga reintroduce us to our bodies. Once we become friends with the physical, going inward to the spiritual becomes easier - Nischala Joy Devi ‘The Secret Power of Yoga’.
My Yoga Background
I have been practising Yoga since the age of 24 years having discovered it while travelling in South Africa. I spent 20 years regularly practising in the Iyengar Yoga Tradition and as I worked as a School Health Nurse, I decided to train as a Teen Yoga and Children’s Yoga Teacher. This then led me to further my yoga training in the Sivananda Classical Tradition of Yoga and I completed my 200hr teacher training in 2019. Since then, I have taught Yoga in Schools, in Special Schools, in the NHS for Staff Wellbeing events, group classes in my local community and one to one for people with chronic health conditions.
I am a practitioner of Bhakti Yoga and have taken additional training in Kirtan Chanting, otherwise known as the Yoga of the Heart which I love to bring into my yoga classes. I am also trained in Postnatal and Yin Yoga.
I also run Restorative Yoga Classes for people living with cancer and other health-related conditions. Please contact me to book.
“I love your yoga classes Ruth, they are varied, challenging and deeply nourishing for the soul”.
